Patient Resources

You may find important information on these websites:

  • The National MS Society www.nmss.org provides and accurate overview of MS pathology, symptoms and treatment. The site also offers information on new research and information on local support groups. There is a free educational series of videos for those newly diagnosed with MS called “Knowledge is Power.” The group can also connect you with an MS navigator who can help you find resources that fit your needs.

  • Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (MSAA) www.mymsaa.org provides educational material on MS and free services such as cooling products for MS patients with heat sensitivity. They can also help cover the cost of your MRI.

  • The MS Foundation www.msfocus.org is focused on providing free services that address the needs of people with MS and their families. Additional information about grants and free services is available on the site.

  • Can do MS www.cando-ms.org sponsors many patient education programs such as webinars and podcasts, and programs held across the country.

  • Job Accommodation Network (JAN) www.askjan.org is an online resource providing free expert advice on workplace accommodations and disability employment issues. You can read about suggested accommodations online or contact one of their consultants for one-on-one guidance.


Caregiver/Provider Support

There is also support available online for those caring for people with MS. Try one of these sites:

  • Caregiver.com www.caregiver.com is one of the most highly visited caregiver sites on the internet. The site offers access to Today’s Caregiver magazine and links to government and nonprofit agency resources.

  • Today’s Caregiver magazine www.caregiver.com/magazine is published bimonthly.

  • Caregiver Action Network (CAN) www.thefamilycaregiver.org, the nation’s leading family caregiver organization, works to educate, support, empower and improve the quality of life for people who care for loved ones with a chronic illness or disability.

  • The Well Spouse Association www.wellspouse.org advocates for and addresses the needs of individuals caring for a chronically ill and/or disabled partner. The group provides networking and local support groups, as well as publishing a quarterly newsletter called Mainstay.

  • National Council on Independent Living www.ncil.org can provide references to independent living centers near you, and offers publications and advice related to disability issues.

  • National Rehabilitation Information Center for Independence www.naric.com is a database of research information about assistive technology and rehabilitation.
